Getting started
I have never done yoga before. Where should I start?
Start with a beginner class, which explains each pose step by step, or a private session if you would like individual attention. Our beginner's guide is a good read before your first class.
Do I need to be flexible or fit?
No. Every class offers options, and poses are adapted to the range of movement you have today. Flexibility is not a requirement for starting yoga.
Am I too old to start yoga?
Many people start yoga later in life. Older adults are advised to take particular care, and if you have health conditions, speak to a healthcare professional about how to adapt your activity. Gentle yoga and chair yoga are good places to start.
Which class should I choose?
Our classes page includes a short guide to choosing. If you are still unsure, get in touch and we will help.
Equipment and clothing
What equipment do I need?
A non-slip yoga mat and enough space to stretch out. Cushions, a belt and a blanket are useful extras, and you can use household items instead of yoga props. Each class page lists exactly what you need, and our equipment guide covers the options.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing you can move and bend in, such as leggings, joggers or loose trousers and a top that stays in place when you fold forward. Most people practise barefoot.
Online classes
How do I join an online class?
Classes run on Zoom. Once your booking is confirmed, we email your joining details 24 hours before class. You can join from a laptop, tablet or phone.
Do I have to turn my camera on?
No, cameras are optional in group classes. With your camera on, your teacher can offer more specific suggestions. In private sessions we recommend having it on, but it is still your choice.
Are classes recorded?
No. We do not record live group classes.
What if my internet connection drops?
Rejoin using the same link. If a class has to be cancelled because of a problem on our side, we will offer you a place in another class or a refund in line with our refund policy.
Booking and payment
How do I book, and when is my place confirmed?
Choose a class and time on the booking page. Your place is reserved straight away and you will receive a booking reference. We then confirm your booking by email - please check your confirmation before the class.
How do I pay?
We'll explain how to pay when we confirm your booking. See our pricing page for current prices.
Can I cancel or reschedule?
Yes. Please let us know at least 24 hours before your class or session. You can cancel using the link in your booking email, or contact us to reschedule. Full details are in our cancellation policy.
What if I am late?
You can usually still join within the first 10 minutes of a group class. Please warm up gently on your own before joining stronger poses. For private sessions, the session still ends at the scheduled time.
Classes and sessions
How long are classes?
Group classes last between 30 and 60 minutes depending on the class; the exact length is shown on the schedule. Private sessions last 60 minutes.
How many people are in a group class?
Group classes have a limited number of places, shown when you book, so the teacher can keep an eye on everyone who has their camera on.
Accessibility, safety and modifications
Can classes be adapted if I have limited mobility?
Options are offered in every class, and chair yoga keeps the whole practice off the floor. Tell us about any access needs when you book, sharing only what you are comfortable with, and we will do our best to help. See gentle yoga modifications for ideas.
Is yoga safe if I have a health condition or injury?
Yoga involves physical activity, and what is suitable varies from person to person. If you have a health condition, an injury or are pregnant, please seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional before taking part. Our teachers cannot give medical advice. Read our yoga safety information.
Can yoga treat my condition?
We do not make medical claims. Yoga is not a substitute for medical treatment or professional advice, and our classes are not designed to treat any condition.
